School-Based
Mentoring
Our School-Based
program offers mentoring services for elementary and middle-school aged
children who are referred by school personnel. This program seeks to
place referred children in a one-on-one mentoring relationship that
centers around fun and positive activities in the school setting.
Although the children are referred for a variety of reasons, it is a
voluntary program, so parents must give permission and children must
want to be involved in the program.
The match
relationship in the School-Based program lasts for at least one school
year, and volunteers in this program do not have contact with their
Littles outside of the school setting. During their meeting times, Bigs
and Littles spend time playing games, reading, doing homework, making
crafts or just hanging out and talking.
We offer both
lunchtime and after-school programs in State College, Bald Eagle,
Bellefonte, and Penns Valley school districts, and more volunteers are
always needed in all locations!
