Parenting Plus Program Services

Parenting Plus is a parent education and support program designed for families with multiple stressors, which compromise their parenting.  Services are designed for parents with children ages 0-10 years old, in Centre County.  Specific parent education varies depending on the parent’s need and is designed to support positive parent/child relationships by: providing developmental information, including how their children learn and develop, providing developmental assessments of their children to gauge strengths and delays in development, teach families to form positive relationships through positive discipline and encouraging/promoting positive self-esteem, and promoting parent enjoyment through family activities. Parenting Plus also supports and assists parents in obtaining services needed for them and their children provided by the county.

Parenting Plus is staffed by four Parent Educators, all with Bachelors degrees and backgrounds in Human Development, Psychology, and Social Work.  Each Parent Educator maintains a caseload of 11 families, are certified in the Parents As Teachers Program, a 0 to 3 years and 3 to Kindergarden readiness/ developmental program. Parent Educators receive on-going training as part of their professional development and certification requirements of PAT.  On average, a Parent Educator works with a family from 6 months to 1½ year on a weekly basis, focusing on developed goals.  Collaborative work with other agency providers working with the family is a key component of Parenting Plus to ensure services are not being duplicated, and an attempt to assist families in understanding services they are receiving.

Parenting Plus is fully funded by Centre County Children and Youth Services
