Low Elements
Wild
Woozy - This V shaped set
of wires is designed to be traversed by a pair of
climbers. The goal is to see how far along the wires the
pair can make it.
Whale Watch - Large
platform that operates like a see-saw. Great element for
large or small groups. Lots of variety in the types of
activities that can be done on this element. Basic goal
is to be able to balance platform so that neither end
ever touches the ground.
Swamp Crossing -
Climbers use a set a boards to connect pillars and move
from one end of the “swamp” to the other end. Excellent
element to address goal setting and to incorporate
“handicaps” which hinder participants’ reliance on their
strengths and forces them to focus on other skills,
which can be chosen by the facilitator.
Spider Web - Element
which participants must weave their way into or out of.
High reliance on other team members and lots of physical
contact. Again, lots of opportunities for facilitator to
set “handicaps.”
Wall
- Twelve foot wall which participants must climb
over. Because there are no footholds, ladders, or
external devices, participants must rely on each other
to accomplish task. Again, lots of physical contact.
Nitro Swing - Rope
swing used to traverse a space of ground. Entire group
must complete process. This element is another one which
requires teamwork and physical contact.
Mohawk - Consists of
five separate elements (Postman’s Walk, Running
Traverse, Pirate’s Crossing, Multi-Line, and a bare
cable) which are combined to create a series of
obstacles. Participants must use teamwork to complete
the element and there are also lots of variations that
can be used in implementing this element.
Switcheroo - Set of
three ropes that climber uses to traverse length.
Climber begins on one rope and changes to using two
ropes or vice-versa. Can be modified by removing ropes
to make it a two rope element called the
Pirates Crossing or a one rope
element called the Commando Crawl.
Flying Squirrel -
Element is a transitional one. One climber is raised
into the air by the rest of the group. Helps climbers
experience the heights and the feeling of being in a
harness. Perceived risk is very low.
High
Elements
Vertical
Playpen - Element divided
into four “sections.” Climber can set goal to reach a
specific segment. Designed to be used by two climbers
simultaneously so can be completed solo or in pairs.
Physically challenging element.
Postman’s Walk - A
single rope stretched across the length of the element.
Good beginning element because of low degree of physical
challenge.
Multi-Line - More
physically challenging than the Postman’s Walk.
A single foot cable is suspended, under tension, between
two trees. A series of multi line ropes hang vertically
from an overhead cable that is 10 to 14 feet above the
foot cable. The multi line ropes are spaced
progressively further apart. A belay cable runs parallel
to the overhead cable.
Pamper
Plank - FUN element but
more mentally challenging than any of the others.
Participant chooses where to set trapeze, which
determines the length of the jump from the platform.
Zip Line - HIGH
element. Participants jump from a platform and zips
through the air. A two
wheel pulley rides on a 300 foot long cable suspended
between two trees. The participant hangs underneath the
pulley connected by a multi line tether.
